Caring for Our Sacred Space: A Step Forward

At St. Mary Catholic Church, even small improvements reflect a larger commitment to caring for the spaces where we encounter Christ.

Recently, parishioner Joe Miller, a member of the Building and Maintenance Committee, crafted a new altar step leading up to the tabernacle. Designed to match the sanctuary flooring, the step provides a safer and more seamless approach for our clergy.
This new addition replaces a custom step stool previously built by parishioner Matt Dehn, whose work faithfully served the parish. Together, these efforts reflect the generosity and craftsmanship of parishioners who quietly give their time and talent in service to the Church.
Additional enhancements have also been made in the sanctuary. New hymnal boards have been installed, thoughtfully crafted by a parishioner who preferred to remain anonymous. These boards were carefully designed to complement the existing altar and sanctuary décor, blending beauty with function.
To further support participation in the liturgy, Kathy Scott, parish Office Manager, created new hymn numbers that are more visible throughout the church, making it easier for parishioners to follow along in the missal.
While these updates are meaningful, they are part of a broader vision set by our parish clergy, staff, and volunteer Building and Maintenance Committee. Plans remain in place to eventually renovate the sanctuary steps and flooring more fully in the future.
Before that work begins, however, the parish is turning its attention to a more urgent need.

The church roof is nearing the end of its lifespan. While it is not currently leaking, proactive care now will help avoid more serious issues later...including damage to our beautifully renovated ceiling and walls! Over the coming months, St. Mary will begin raising funds and applying for grants, with the goal of replacing the roof within the next two to three years.
Once that work is complete, attention will return to additional interior improvements, including flooring and pew replacements.
As these efforts move forward, parishioners are invited to take part. Gifts made through the Annual Appeal in St. Mary’s name will directly support this work. Any funds raised beyond the diocesan goal will return to the parish in full and be set aside for the roof project. Appeal giving envelopes will be available in May, but you can already set up a gift online below!
Caring for our church is a shared responsibility and an opportunity to invest in the future of our parish for generations to come.
