Captivating the Youth for Christ

PSR is continuing the online program with the online program for all grades this year. If you would like to have in person classes or be a volunteer as the catechist zoom guide, please consider reaching out to volunteer. Those children that are in a sacramental year, are also required to attend in person sacrament preparation classes. See the PSR calendar for details on specific dates and times for sacrament classes. All families are asked to attend 4 total of a combination of Family Worship Nights or Handing on the Faith Events for more in-person catechesis.

Catechesis of the Good Shepherd
The Catechesis of the Good Shepherd is a Montessori-based method of spiritual formation for children, beginning at age 3 through 13, developed by scripture scholar, Sofia Cavalletti, and Montessorian, Gianna Gobbi. This method of catechesis uses a prepared hands-on environment for the children, called an atrium. This facilitates a retreat link space for both children and adults to be open to hear, ponder and celebrate the most essential mysteries of the Christian faith, as revealed in Scripture and Liturgy. The child and catechists work together to further their understanding of God’s message through a series of presentations about the life of Christ and the Gospels, prayer, and liturgically inspired activities, practical life skills, art and music. Our hope is that through the child’s work, the child comes closer to the true teacher in Jesus Christ, our Good Shepherd Young children of the parish, ages 3-6 years old, are able to sign up for the Level 1 Atrium at this time.

Classes are held in the Atrium in 23 Union on Wednesday evenings from 4-6pm, and Tuesday mornings 9:30-11am starting in September. Please see the PSR calendar for more details on dates.
