Craft Night is coming up Thursday, Sept. 9th from 7-8:30 pm  at Kavanagh Hall in the dining room. Mia Gilbert will be your craft night hostess until Amanda Hicks returns to us. Thank you Amanda for running craft night and we hope to see you back again soon!  Mia has some ideas about having workshops at the meetings to make projects for charity, gifts, or just because we can ;). Please bring any current projects you are working on and join us for some fun and relaxation!

Fall book study: Maurice and Therese: The Story of a Love.  The book study group is meeting on Wednesday evenings from 7-9 pm from September 8th - October 20th in Kavanagh Hall.  On the evening of October 27th, we will on view a movie on the life of St. Therese as a way to wrap up this study of the "Little Way." If you or anyone you know is still interested in joining the book study, please contact Christina Tawney ctawney@columbus.rr.com with questions.  All are welcome, even those who may need to miss a couple nights because of other commitments and since the book is written in a letter format,  it is fairly easy to pick up at different times.

Calling All Bakers!
Dessert of the Month has returned and IS HERE!  Wahoooo!  Please help the 2010 Harvest Ball become a success by volunteering to make a delicious dessert! Please contact Erika at 740-747-0400 or elajtai@yahoo.com for more information.

Childcare Volunteers Needed!
SMOW has the wonderful opportunity to show our strength and conviction of our religious life by providing childcare to parents attending the Baptismal Preparation Program.  The next program is scheduled for Wednesday, September 29th at 7 PM in Kavanagh Hall.  Please consider helping by babysitting while the parents prepare for their little ones to enter into God's holy family. Please contact Erika at 740-747-0400 or elajtai@yahoo.com if you can help.  Only 2 sitters are needed!  Volunteers must have attend Protecting God's Children and be fingerprinted.

Calling All Bargain Hunters!!!
We are still in the season of garage sales, yard sales, closet sales...oh my!  I stopped by a garage sale last week that was bursting at the seams with stuff o' plenty.  After browsing the tables for a bargain, and finally sighing that little sigh of "oh, nothing here..."  I turned to find that I was struck silent at the sight of the last table.  My eyes grew large as dinner plates at I stared at the mountain of EASTER BASKETS and STUFFED EASTER BUNNIES.  The lady was just eager to get rid of it all.  "Are you interested?" the lady asked.  "Oh, yes, I'm your gal!"  So I walked away with 3 bags full of stuff for (you guessed it) OPERATION EASTER BASKET!  I have to add that I got it all for 75 cents, and in great condition too!!!  Yep, it was a mighty good day. :)

And a reminder that SMOW is looking for a new leadership team!  Did you feel called over the summer to serve St. Mary by becoming more involved in SMOW?  Even a little bit??  Remember…
To be a SMOW leader, you don’t need to be…
Young, or old, or middle aged,
Married, widowed or single,
The mother of 2 kids, 4 kids, 6 kids or no kids,
Working full-time, part-time, retired, or not at all,
Experienced with leadership, organizing or even typing,
What you do need is a desire to serve, learn, grow, try something new and a little time.
Does this describe you?
Our leadership terms expire at the end of this year, and we’re looking for a group of women to take our places.  Please prayerfully consider this opportunity to serve our parish.

St. Mary announcements:
SERVICE OPPORTUNITY!

Do you have an hour or two once every two months to help clean the church? There are about 5 hard-working people who do all of the cleaning to make our church beautiful, and if they could get just an hour or two from a few of us the work could be cut in half! We could stagger our help, but even if 10 of us can commit to helping once this year, it would make a huge difference!! Please contact Megan Naumovski if you would like to be on the email list when the requests come up. The first one of the academic year is this Friday morning. Please send a quick email to megbski@aol.com if you can make it. (Note: due to the meticulous nature of the vacuuming, it was requested that no tiny footprints be left behind the church cleaning, if you get my drift!)

Here is the request from a fellow parishioner:

"We clean every 7 weeks.  Our week is this week, Friday, Sept. 3.  Start time is around 9:00 a.m. and usually ends around 12:00 or 1:00 p.m.,  depending on the number of people that can help in this endeavor. We are especially in need of someone who can sweep the carpets in the vestibule and the church proper.  This takes about an hour.  We would welcome anyone who could come between 10:00 and 11:00.  The church office staff usually likes to lock the church at 12:00 noon so we try to finish  by that time, although that does not always happen.  We are easy to get along with (there are 5 of us) and would love to have another team  member.  Or if a group of people would like to rotate their days in assisting us, that would be fine too.  Also, I will be gone during the winter months, so it would be helpful to have someone take my place for those times, an estimate would be around 3 Fridays, at the most."
