Parish Council: Home
St. Mary Parish Council is comprised of 13 members as well as all current staff of St. Mary (as non-voting members). Parish Council supports various activities of the parish including, but not limited to:
- Assist Fr. Black discern future direction for the parish
- Participate with the pastoral leadership and parish staff in the decisions for the parish
- Listen to and voice the concerns and needs of the parishioners
- Help solve problems brought to the council
- Communicate the goals, policies, activities and decisions of the council to the parish community
- Encourage and support parishioner initiative, involvement and decision making at all levels of parish life and operations
- Set a good example of the parish in the community
- Pariticipate in the parish blood drives and Eucharitic Adoration
- Coordinate the Ministry Fair and annual parish picnic
Members serve a three year term, beginning in June, and may serve up to two terms for a total of six years. Elected officers within the council include President, Vice President, and Secretary. Elections for officers are held at the June meeting. Other members represent various areas of parish life in six categories: Administration, At-Large, Community Relations, Education, Liturgy, and Social Concern.
Active parishioners interested in serving a term on the Parish Council must complete an application to be turned in no later than the second Thursday of March. Members are selected through a random drawing once all applications have been received.
Parish Council holds regular meetings on the second Thursday of each month, (none in July), beginning at 7:00 p.m. in the Kavanagh Hall Library. All parishioners are welcome to attend. If you have a cause to bring before the council you must request this of the current president by noon of the day before the monthly meeting. Approved minutes are available in the side vestibule of the church.
